Crisis in 12 districts; lakhs of people in trouble

It has been raining heavily in Nepal for about 72 hours. The devastated neighbouring state has released about 11 lakh cusecs of water collected from its rains into the rivers of Bihar. The effect of record water released from Kosi-Gandak Barrage has reached 12 districts of Bihar. More than one lakh people are affected by the floods. Trouble may increase further in these districts on Sunday. Along with the rivers connected to Kosi-Gandak, the water level of Ganga will also become a cause of trouble. Even Patna is in trouble, because due to the rise in the water level of Punpun river, flood water has already reached more than a thousand houses and the rise in the water level of Ganga again will be a problem.

Rain frightens Vadodara

On the other hand, heavy rain in Vadodara city of Gujarat has created problems. Due to heavy rains, low lying areas were flooded. 76 mm of rain was recorded in the city in just two hours. Due to which many areas were waterlogged and normal life was disrupted. Not only this, due to heavy rains, the water level of Vishwamitri river has also increased.

The administration is on alert after the increase in the water level of Vishwamitri river and Ajwa lake. Vishwamitri river was flowing at a level of 20.30 feet at 5 pm. Which is 25 feet below the danger mark, but officials say that they are ready to deal with any flood-like situation.

Vadodara Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dilip Rana said, Vadodara received heavy rains in a short time, especially in the catchment areas of Vishwamitri river and Ajwa lake, which increased the water level. If needed, we will evacuate people living in low-lying areas and take them to a safe place. He said that buses are ready and other arrangements are in place.

Rana said that, since there is no warning of heavy rain after today, it is expected that the water flow will decrease in the coming hours. But in view of the water level, we have alerted people living in low-lying areas. Mayor Pinky Soni said that the city administration had made preparations in advance in view of the heavy rain warning and there was no immediate cause for concern.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat and neighbouring areas, and monsoon conditions remained strong over Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch regions for 24 hours till Sunday morning. As per the forecast, heavy rains are likely at isolated places in Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udaipur, Narmada and Bharuch and Amreli and Bhavnagar districts of Saurashtra till Monday morning. The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) said that Gujarat has received 136.22 percent of the average rainfall this time.

The weather will clear up in some states after October 1, but heavy rains will remain in Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Bihar. Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa may receive light to moderate rains today and tomorrow. The northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to receive good rainfall between October 1 and 4, while Meghalaya may receive heavy rainfall from September 30 to October 3. Rains are also expected in Kerala, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
