Dam broke in Sitamarhi, flood water entered 15 villages
The dam broke due to leakage from a mouse hole in the Bagmati embankment near Madhkaul village in Belsand block of Sitamarhi district, due to which flood water entered 15 villages. A population of 25 thousand has been affected by this. This incident has created a serious crisis for the local community. The affected villages include Madhkaul as well as Jafarpur, Pandhiya, Olipur, Kansar and Basaul, where water has entered up to five feet. The flow of water is fast on the main road as well as rural roads.

Executive Engineer suspended

Due to excessive pressure of Gandak river, Champaran embankment situated on the left bank of Gandak river at Km 4.50 in Bagaha-1 block under West Champaran district was damaged on 29th September at 5:00 pm. Works are being done on war footing to save the embankment. Executive Engineer of Flood Control Division posted in Bagaha, Nishikant Kumar has been suspended on the charges of damage to the embankment, negligence in work and lack of proper coordination with the district administration.

Discharge has started declining rapidly
After the rains stopped in Nepal division, the discharge of Kosi river is also declining. There has been a decline in discharge from Barah area since 1 am and from Bhimnagar Kosi Barrage since 7 am. According to the data released by the Water Resources Department, 3 lakh 34 thousand 290 cusecs of discharge has been recorded in decreasing order from Bhimnagar Kosi Barrage at 7 pm. Similarly, 1 lakh 88 thousand 500 cusecs of discharge has been recorded in decreasing order from Barah area.

Navhatta Zone Officer said that there was news of breaking of spur but it is not broken, water is flowing over it. Rescue and relief work has been started. SDRF team has been deployed. There is no loss of life and property.
