Bihar News: It has been raining heavily in Nepal for the last three days. Nepal sent its record water to the Kosi and Gandak rivers of Bihar on Saturday. Floods in these two rivers have surrounded one lakh people. Now there is a fear of the water level of the Ganges also rising. Patna is also in trouble.
Dam broke in Sitamarhi, flood water entered 15 villages
The dam broke due to leakage from a mouse hole in the Bagmati embankment near Madhkaul village in Belsand block of Sitamarhi district, due to which flood water entered 15 villages. A population of 25 thousand has been affected by this. This incident has created a serious crisis for the local community. The affected villages include Madhkaul as well as Jafarpur, Pandhiya, Olipur, Kansar and Basaul, where water has entered up to five feet. The flow of water is fast on the main road as well as rural roads.
Executive Engineer suspended
Due to excessive pressure of Gandak river, Champaran embankment situated on the left bank of Gandak river at Km 4.50 in Bagaha-1 block under West Champaran district was damaged on 29th September at 5:00 pm. Works are being done on war footing to save the embankment. Executive Engineer of Flood Control Division posted in Bagaha, Nishikant Kumar has been suspended on the charges of damage to the embankment, negligence in work and lack of proper coordination with the district administration.
Discharge has started declining rapidly
After the rains stopped in Nepal division, the discharge of Kosi river is also declining. There has been a decline in discharge from Barah area since 1 am and from Bhimnagar Kosi Barrage since 7 am. According to the data released by the Water Resources Department, 3 lakh 34 thousand 290 cusecs of discharge has been recorded in decreasing order from Bhimnagar Kosi Barrage at 7 pm. Similarly, 1 lakh 88 thousand 500 cusecs of discharge has been recorded in decreasing order from Barah area.
Reduction in discharge of Kosi river
Rain stopped late Saturday evening in the catchment area of Kosi river located in Nepal division. After this, a decrease in the discharge of Kosi river was also observed in Barah area located in Nepal division. The highest discharge of this year, 5 lakh 82 thousand 950 cusecs, was recorded from Barah area at 11 and 12 o’clock on Saturday night.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs held a meeting regarding floods The meeting of the Union Home Ministry regarding the floods in Bihar has ended. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. He said that if needed, people will also be airlifted in Bihar. Not only this, if needed, food packaging will also be dropped in the flood affected areas by using the Air Force.
Kosi floods have evacuated villages, pressure is also building on the embankment.
In Saharsa, due to continuous heavy rains in the water catchment area of Nepal and excessive discharge from the barrage, the water level of the river has increased considerably. Due to this, there has been a flood between the eastern and western Kosi embankments. People living there are continuously evacuating. There was a state of chaos on the eastern Kosi embankment since Sunday morning. Some people had come to see the flood, while some had come to know about their loved ones trapped between the embankments. Due to this, the crowd on the embankment increased considerably and there was a traffic jam at many places. Convoys of administrative officials are continuously patrolling the dam.
Water is leaking near the embankment
There is a huge pressure of water at many points of the Kosi embankment in Supaul. Water is leaking near spur number 67.60 of the eastern embankment. This incident took place near the Nemua Mosque of Bakour Panchayat of Supaul Sadar block. There is panic among the local people due to the water leakage. The local administration is engaged in flood prevention work.
The water level of the river is continuously rising
Due to the breaking of Fatua dam in Nepal adjacent to Motihari, flood water has spread in dozens of villages including Hirapur, Gurhanwa, Veerta Tola, Bhawanipur, Balua Guabari, Mahangua, Dostiyaan, Mahuva under Dhaka block of East Champaran district. The water level of the river is still rising even after the rain stopped late Saturday night. In view of the increase in the water level of the river, SDO Nisha Grewal has directed the engineers of the Water Resources Department to repair the rain cut on the embankment.
The structure of the mosque was washed away in a few seconds. Due to continuous rain for three days in Purnia, the rivers of the district are in spate. Rivers like Mahananda, Kanakayi and Parman flowing in Baisi are flowing above the danger mark. The situation here is dire. Erosion has taken a terrible form in Tarabari of Baisi block. Here the structure of a mosque got submerged in the Kanakayi river. A 28-second live video of this incident has surfaced. The video shows how the structure of the mosque got submerged in the river in just a few seconds.
Rumor of Kosi dam spur breaking
Rumor of Kosi dam’s 74.40 spur breaking has created panic among the people. Due to sudden rise in water level in Kosi river, water started flowing over the spur, due to which people’s life got disrupted. District administration and zonal administration have started rescue work. According to the information, water is flowing over the spur near Jhakraha Tola of Kasimpur and Hati Panchayat inside the eastern embankment of Navhatta zone. Navhatta Zone Officer said that there was news of breaking of spur but it is not broken, water is flowing over it. Rescue and relief work has been started. SDRF team has been deployed. There is no loss of life and property.
