Former US President Donald Trump launched a personal attack on his presidential election rival Kamala Harris. He called Harris mentally challenged and questioned her intelligence for visiting the southern border, where she had promised to stop asylum seekers in New York.
According to media reports, Trump personally attacked Harris during a rally in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin on Saturday. Here Trump told his supporters, “Joe Biden had become mentally weak. Kamala was born like this.”
Trump linked Harris to the Biden administration’s border policies, saying, “And if you think about it, only a mentally incompetent person could allow this to happen in our country.” Trump, meanwhile, called Harris’ comments on the border on Friday “nonsense.”
Trump’s remarks in Prairie du Chien, a town of about 5,000 on the Mississippi River, were made in response to Harris’s border visit in Douglas, Arizona, when she advocated for harsher penalties for illegal border crossers. Harris, meanwhile, promised to crack down on illegal asylum seekers.
Former President Trump did not stop there. He called Harris a ‘political opportunist’ as he was surrounded by posters of undocumented immigrants charged with deadly crimes. In addition, he insisted that she is accountable for immigrants who have broken the law by entering the country. Trump said, “She’s a disaster. She’s never going to do anything for the border and she doesn’t want to get tough now, except that her poll numbers were going down.”
Earlier on September 11, Trump and Harris faced off in the first presidential debate in Philadelphia on ABC News. Opening the debate, Trump had targeted the Biden-Harris administration, saying that inflation in the US is probably the worst in the country’s history. Trump said that inflation is at 21 per cent and other things are 50 per cent, 60 per cent, 70 per cent and 80 per cent higher than a few years ago.
